Life on Earth is about to be destroyed! A mysterious beam of light - emanating from Mars - is sucking the nitrogen from the planet's atmosphere and only Flash Gordon ("Buster" Crabbe) can stop it. Blasting off with Dale Arden (Jean Rogers), and Dr. Hans Zarkov (Frank Shannon), Flash and his intrepid band of adventurers quickly learn that Queen Azura (Beatrice Roberts), ruler of Mars, is stealing Earth's nitrogen to aid in her ongoing war with the Clay People. They are Martians who Azura magically turned into living mud. A bigger surprise, however, is yet to come...working closely with the Queen is Flash's mortal enemy, Ming the Merciless (Charles Middleton), who - while posing as Azura's ally - is secretly plotting to overthrow the Queen, and seize Mars for himself! Can Flash save the Earth, rescue the Clay People, bring Azura to her senses, and stop Ming's heinous scheme? The answers lie in Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars, 15 thrilling episodes of sci-fi high adventure at its very best.

Emperor Ming (Charles Middleton) returns with a vengence in this, the second offering by Universal in the Flash Gordon 'trilogy'. As usual, only Flash (Buster Crabbe) stands in Ming's way, aided admirably by Dale (the lovely Jean Rogers) and my favorite character, Dr. Zarkov (played by the unbeliveably wooden actor Frank Shannon).
This is one of my favorite films, the best of the three Flash Gordon serials, and well worth the purchase price. Argueably the best serial made. There are plenty of spark-sputtering rocket ships and "strato-sleds", air crews with wings sticking out of their helmets, Clay People, Forest People, Martians, magic amulets, a paralyzing ray, light bridges, and other accoutrements you would expect to find in a space epic such as this. Heck, even Prince Barin shows up! Universal 'borrowed' much of the incidental music from its "Bride of Frankenstein" score (composed by Franz Waxman); this adds much to the film's atmosphere, especially the Clay Kingdom scenes. If you enjoy serials and/or scifi fun, this ws made for you!
Trivia Note: Beatrice Roberts (Queen Azura) played Cary Grant's mother in Alfred Hitchcock's "North by Northwest"
