This 1981 release was more or less a follow-up to 1978's STARDUST with Willie again dipping into old pop standards not normally associated with country music. This time however, he gives these tunes the western swing treatment, lightly accompanied by fiddle, stand-up bass and mandolin--not all that far from his roots. While SOMEWHERE lacks the stately grandeur of STARDUST, Nelson's extraordinary musical grace makes his fluent versions of "Mona Lisa," "I'm Confessin'" and "Over The Rainbow" just as heartfelt. Acoustic guitarist Freddie Powers contributes some spry vocals on the free-wheeling "Exactly Like You" and "Who's Sorry Now" as well as fine counterpoint to Nelson's emphatic gut-string solos. Willie and the boys close this short but sweet set with a joyful instrumental take on "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star."
