Barbra Streisand enters the "smooth jazz" age with a splendidly romantic album full of lush and soulful ballads. Released in November 1988, TILL I LOVED YOU found Barbra in the throes of a relationship with Don Johnson (who duets with her on the title track) and he is obviously the source of her bliss on this record. "The Places You Find Love" is the mid-tempo leadoff track, with an all-star choir including Luther Vandross, Dionne Warwick, James Ingram, Jennifer Holliday and Siedah Garrett.
Streisand does a wonderful version of "All I Ask Of You" (From "Phantom Of The Opera"). "You And Me For Always" and "Why Let It Go?" are both excellent ballads, with the former showing that Barbra can kick out some R&B flavor when she wants. "What Were We Thinking Of" is a rhythmic number with smooth saxophone and Don Johnson on background vocals. "Till I Loved You" is recommended listening for all those already in a relationship and for those who need inspiration that someone is out there for them.
