Product Description:

Alongside Il Divo, G4, and Vittorio Grigolo, Italian baritone Patrizio Buanne was an integral part of the wave of European operatic pop acts that found success outside the classical music scene in the mid-noughties. Now, three albums into his career, the "Voice of Romance" releases his first Best Of compilation, featuring 18 of his contemporary interpretations of both classic standards from his homeland and relatively modern English-language pop songs. Nine tracks appear from his 2005 debut, The Italian, the Royal Philharmonic-backed tribute to his late father, including "Parla Piu Piano," the love theme from The Godfather, "Alta Marea," an Italian adaptation of Crowded House's "Don't Dream It's Over," and a modern reworking of Salvatore "Toto" Cutugno's 1983 hit "L'Italiano," all of which showcase his sophisticated and timeless vocal presence. His 2007 bilingual follow-up Forever Begins Tonight is also equally represented, with nine of its tracks taken from both the U.K. and U.S. editions, including his most famous recording, "Un Angelo," an emotive and passionate rendition of Robbie Williams' "Angels," "Io Che Non Vivo," a Spanish-sung version of Dusty Springfield's "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me," and the highly romantic title track, an accomplished self-penned effort which fits in surprisingly comfortably with the rest of the more familiar material. However, the Universal collection fails to paint the full picture of Buanne's six-year recording career, as contractual reasons prevent his third album, 2009's Warner Bros. Anglo-centric Patrizio, from being featured here at all. However, despite the limited back catalog to choose from, The Best of Patrizio Buanne proves that behind the smoldering good looks, there's also an effortlessly charming, heartfelt, and authentic classical voice too. ~ Jon O'Brien
