The first screen adaptation of Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning stage drama Anna Christie. Blanche Sweet plays the title character, Anna Christie, a former prostitute who after reuniting with her estranged father agrees to join him on his coal barge. When they rescue Matt Burke from the sea, he and Anna fall in love, but can Anna resolve her past to satisfy Matt and her father?
From Eugene O'neill's play about a fallen woman seeking redemption from her father and lover. George Marion played the father in the original Broadway production as well as in the Greta Garbo talkie.
