It must have been over forty years ago that I saw and listened to a tenor on our British TV program "Sunday Night at The London Palladium" and to this day I have never understood why the British media failed to give him the credit he deserved. His voice seemed to fill the theatre, so rich, so powerful and so deep for a tenor. In those days there was no internet and I didn't catch his name, so with no further exposure in this country he seemed lost to me, but I knew I would never forget that voice as long as I lived.
One day, a few years ago I was looking for a particular song on the internet and I found that it had been recorded by an Italian tenor who I had never heard of, I took a chance and ordered it. Well, words couldn't explain the joy I felt when I played that CD, I knew straight away that this was the voice I had fallen in love with all those years ago! This was Sergio Franchi!
Since then I have scoured the world for his songs and I think I have bought nearly everything he has ever recorded. I cannot recomend him to highly, I could liken him to Mario Lanza but I'm sure he is more powerful, his voice has a mellowness about it which is so very tender when singing the quiet, sensitive parts of songs.
He has recorded many popular songs ranging from those of the great musicals to Paul McCartney's "Yesterday", even "Sweet Georgia Brown" and one of my favourites "Stella By Starlight". The likes of "Mattinata" and "Core N'Gratto" as sung on this disc really highlight his talent and versatility.
For me, this particular CD is as impressive as anything he has ever recorded, if you like the song list you will definately love listening to it. If your favourite songs are not hear don't worry because just listening to his voice will soon get you hooked!
