Lionel Hampton may not have been the first person to play the vibraphone, but he is widely acknowledged as the first to utilize it as a jazz instrument. His initial fame came as part of Benny Goodman's exuberant bunch of jazzmen, who were assembled during the swing era. So it's appropriate that this release is titled SWINGING AT HIS BEST, as that's exactly what Hampton does on this fine display of his talents.
