Living Blues - 5-6/02, p.80
"...Opens with Acklin's eternal calling card, the effervescent '68 smash 'Love Makes A Woman', before seguing into her equally insistent followup hit 'Just Ain't No Love' and the churning 'Am I The Same Girl'..."

Product Description:

Personnel includes: Barbara Acklin, Gene Chandler.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
Liner Note Author: Jim Dawson.
Whether or not this anthology remains true to its title is debatable (especially if you expect "hits" to be synonymous with chart-placing singles), but it is certain that it forms an introduction as ideal as any other Barbara Acklin anthology released since the mid-'90s. Released by Brunswick in 2002, 20 Greatest Hits takes care of the basics that everyone should have ("Am I the Same Girl," "Love Makes the Woman," "From the Teacher to the Preacher," "Show Me the Way to Go," "Just Ain't No Love," "After You") and draws some smart selections from the remainder of Acklin's catalog. It's not as in-depth as The Brunswick Anthology or The Complete Barbara Acklin on Brunswick Records, but newcomers unwilling to take the full plunge will be more than satisfied. ~ Andy Kellman

Love makes Barbara Acklin! Music Lover: from BRONX, NY US -- June, 5, 2015

Barbara Acklin, from the years 1967-1972, was the soul queen of Chicago! She had big hits like Love makes a woman, Just ain't no love, Am I the same girl and my personal favorite "Yes I see the love! Backed up by the Chi-lites for most of her recordings (she was once married to Eugene Record- the group's lead singer) Barbara also did 2 marvelous duets with Gene Chandler! I always felt that if Barbara Acklin had joined Motown, that she would of been a huge star but I guess that a subject open to debate! Nevertheless, Barbara Acklin is a soulful treasure and this cd has a lot of goodies to dig up from!
