Recorded during 1970 and 1972, LIVE FROM LAS VEGAS is just that--the King live in Sin City. Here is the jumpsuit-wearing Elvis in full glory, risen from years of inactivity and, following his '68 comeback TV special, performing live again. This is Elvis the entertainer, in his muttonchops-and-female-backup-singers phase, working up a sweat in concert.
While not as revolutionary or controversial as he was in the 1950s, Elvis was still a phenomenal showman, and LIVE FROM LAS VEGAS showcases this part of the King's career to full advantage. Whether emoting through a dramatic ballad ("The Impossible Dream") or belting out contemporary hits by Neil Diamond ("Sweet Caroline") and Creedence Clearwater Revival ("Proud Mary"), Elvis proves to be an incredible stylist. Aided by the able guitar of James Burton on these recordings, the music sparkles and shines. At the time of this collection's 2005 release, Las Vegas celebrated its 100th birthday, and few things define Vegas in the 1970s like Elvis.
