A dozen songs of surprisingly high caliber, all popular frat-party and R&B dance standards of the time ("Double Shot of My Baby's Love" etc.-- was there any band playing the fraternity circuit that didn't cover that?), representing the songbooks of George Gershwin ("Summertime"), Sam & Dave ("Hold on I'm Comin'") and the Isley Brothers ("Respectable"). The group had a surprisingly lean and well delineated sound, with Steve Pollack's guitar well represented even though Aivars Osvalds' organ is really the group's lead instrument, with some room for Bobby Pollack's sax to take a pleasing solo or two. One only wishes the sound quality were a little sharper -- this CD is apparently made from an LP production master, which has its limits in terms of clarity, and shows some distortion. ~ Bruce Eder
