Where Jansch's previous albums were largely comprised of self-penned material, this third set was drawn from traditional songs, bar an instrumental reading of Ewan MacColl's "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face". The artist's highly original guitar style underpins the lengthy title track and the enthralling "Black Water Side". Jimmy Page is only one of many musicians expressing a debt to Jansch and the latter track provided the template for "Black Mountain Side" on Led Zeppelin I. Bert's languid interpretation of "Nottamun Town" inspired a later version by Fairport Convention, but they struggled to match the enthralling atmosphere created here. Jack Orion is a mesmerizing selection from a hugely influential performer.
