Personnel: John McLaughlin (acoustic guitar); Dominique Di Piazza, Kai Eckhardt (bass); Trilok Gurtu (percussion).
On this 1992 trio album, John McLaughlin fuses together atmospheric music with jazz harmonies, Spanish gypsy guitar stylings, and, of course, blazing chops. Part ethereal, part intense and linear, McLaughlin brings a rich palette of musical colors to his canvas.
Trilok Gurtu's smart drumming and Dominique Di Piazza's punchy yet melodic bass playing are high points here. The beautiful bass feature "Marie" and McLaughlin's fast paced "Hijacked" are both standouts, but the album's climax is the cinematic, ever-evolving title track.
