As can be heard from the irresistible disco boogie of "Dance Floor," Troutman was instrumental in George Clinton's 1970s P-Funk sound: elements of many of these much-sampled tracks will also be familiar to discerning hip-hop fans from their subsequent appearances in recordings by artists like the Beastie Boys, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg. Though Troutman was murdered by his brother/manager, Larry, in 1999, his musical legacy survives.
