An intriguing but much too brief collection of Louis Armstrong performances that were featured in various films from the 1930s through the 1960s, this set is quite pleasant, with solid takes on such Armstrong standards as "Ain't Misbehavin'" (the version here is from 1951), "Jeepers Creepers" (from 1938), and "Basin Street Blues" (also from 1951, with Armstrong sharing vocals with Jack Teagarden). Listen to the final track here, a version of "I Got Rhythm" from the 1965 film When the Boys Meet the Girls, to hear how Armstrong's horn lines could take even the most familiar melody phrases and find new dimensions in them. Too short to be anything close to essential, this collection is still a lot of fun. ~ Steve Leggett
