Description by OLDIES.com:

This 1966 gem was recorded in the studio in front of an invited audience. Rawls is in superb voice, supported only by Herb Ellis, Tommy Strode, Jimmy Bond, and Earl Palmer. His versions of blues gems by T-Bone Walker, Count Basie, and Leroy Carr are great, but the real magic happens on his in-tempo monologues that introduce "Tobacco Road" and Oscar Brown's "World of Trouble." Newly remixed and mastered in 24-bit, the sound is superb on this CD reissue.

Product Description:

Personnel: Lou Rawls (vocals); Tommy Strode (guitar); Herb Ellis (piano); Jimmy Bond (bass guitar); Earl Palmer (drums).

Recording information: Capitol Studios, Los Angeles, California (1966).

Long before he became known as a smooth pop balladeer in the 1970s, Lou Rawls was a powerful vocalist whose rich baritone ably blended soul, pop, jazz, and blues. This 1966 live album finds Rawls at the peak of his early period, backed by a small combo of great jazz/R&B players and tackling a program of classic blues tunes with characteristic verve and class.
