Wilson Pickett (with The Falcons) composed and sang the 1962 Doo Wop/R&B hit "I Found A Love" before venturing out as a solo performer. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Wilson Pickett's deep soulful gritty voice helped establish him as one of the premier singers of the Memphis/Muscle Shoals era. This 4-CD box set presents the four defining albums of his career -- In The Midnight Hour, The Wicked Pickett, The Sound Of Wilson Pickett and The Exciting Wilson Pickett.
Originally released by Atlantic Records in 1965, In The Midnight Hour (Atlantic 8114) was Wilson Pickett's first album. It includes his classic song of the same name, as well as "Come Home Baby," "I Found A Love," "Don't Fight It" and others. On this album, he is backed by the Stax rhythm section, an ensemble that would be help define soul music during much of the 1960s. This album hit #3 on the Billboard Black Albums' chart, and the song "Don't Fight It" charted at #53 on their Pop Singles' chart and #4 on the Black Singles' chart.
A huge crossover hit, The Wicked Pickett (Atlantic SD 8138) broke the Top 50 on both the Pop and Black Album charts, reaching #5 on the latter. Originally released in 1966 by Atlantic, the album is arguably his finest ever featuring pristine songwriting, production, and musicianship.
The Sound of Wilson Pickett (Atlantic 8145) is arguably Pickett's greatest release. A spectacularly produced album full of R&B and Soul, it was a huge sensation reaching #7 on the Black Albums chart.
The Exciting Wilson Pickett (Atlantic 8129) is one of the best soul records of the 1960s, and includes the hits "Land Of 1000 Dances," "634-5789," "In The Midnight Hour" and "Ninety-Nine And A Half (Won't Do)."
