The Four Seasons: Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito, Nick Massi. The Seasons' 1962 debut album is typical of its (pre-Beatle) time, in that it's based around a hit or two, with the rest being more or less filler - either contemporary pop songs like "Never on Sunday" or pre-rock standards like "Yessir That's My Baby" (here done in slowed down, hilariously ripe doo-wop style). The group's singing, however, is glorious throughout, and the album's two hit singles--"Sherry" and "Big Girls Don't Cry"--are innovative reworkings of the East Coast harmony vocal style as well as clear signposts toward the pure-pop ear candy the Seasons and their genius producer Bob Crewe would pursue down the road.
