"Dedicated To The Memory Of Ricky Wilson." (Wilson died of AIDS in 1985.)
BOUNCING OFF THE SATELLITES, released following the untimely death of guitarist Ricky Wilson, has a far weightier atmosphere than the B-52s' other releases. While Wilson featured heavily in the recording of SATELLITES, it is obvious that things were not so bouncy in the band during this period.
Songs such as "Summer of Love," "Detour Through Your Mind," and "Girl from Impanema" feature a curious combination of B-52s- styled vocals with a '70s disco beat. This is most evident on "Housework," a song that sounds (not unpleasantly) like disco-fied Roches. Most appealing are "Wig," a track reminiscent of the earlier "52 Girls," and "Theme for a Nude Beach." The latter would feel at home on an Austin Powers soundtrack. SATELLITES is an album best suited for B-52s completists.
