Loaded with the kind of high-energy, toe-tapping performances we've come to expect from The Manhattan Transfer, SWING features the group's tight harmonies backed by such masterful players as bassist Ray Brown, steel guitarist Buddy Emmons, pianist Yaron Gershovsky, and the Rosenberg Trio. The repertoire is well-chosen, with thirteen classics from the pens of Bennie Moten, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Django Reinhardt and others (nearly half of the lyrics are by the immensely talented Jon Hendricks). The Manhattan Transfer executes each tune with brightness, clarity, and a buoyant swing. The guest artists, (most notably violinist Stephane Grappelli), punctuate the album with some wonderfully swinging solos.
