Based on R.D. Blackmore's novel of 1869 about lovers from rival families. In 17th Century England, John Ridd is seeking vengeance against the Doone family who killed his father and who are seeking power any way they can. When he falls in love with a woman named Lorna, he learns that she herself is a Doone, and the family rivalry is brought to its inevitable confrontation.
Lorna, a Scottish nobleman's daughter, is kidnapped and raised by the Doones, an outlaw family. But John Ridd has a score to settle with them -- vengeance for his father's murder. Then he falls in love with Lorna, and protecting her becomes more important than revenge.
