Description by

Baron Frankenstein in dead, right? That's precisely what he wants folks to think. He's had it up to here with a public that doesn't appreciate the trouble a mad scientist goes through to snatch good body parts. To carry on his work, he holes up in a place where the possibilities are utterly maddening: a home for the criminally insane. A hand here. A brain there. True to form, the Baron (Peter Cushing) keeps his gruesome creation (David Prowse, widely known for his later portrayals of Darth Vader) in stitches in this sixth and final frightfest in Hammer Films' Frankenstein cycle.

Product Description:

Cult favorite Hammer Films presents the sixth and final episode of its Frankenstein cycle, a series of films featuring the classic monster made famous by Universal Studios in the 1930s. Legendary horror film star Peter Cushing reprises his role as the mad Baron Frankenstein, this time taking refuge in an insane asylum where he plans to continue his evil experiments involving reanimation of the dead. With the help of his crazed assistant Dr. Helder (Shane Briant), Frankenstein creates a hairy, apelike creature stitched together from body parts culled from the asylum's criminal inhabitants (the gruesome monster is ably played by David Prowse, who would later rise to fame as STAR WARS' Darth Vader). Directed by horror maestro Terence Fisher, FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL features Hammer's trademark moody, gothic atmosphere, and also marks the last time Fisher and Cushing would work together.

Rating 5.0 One of the best Hammer films Movie Lover: from Hiawatha, IA US -- March, 15, 2007

This is an oddity from Hammer Studio's twilight years, and quite possibly the best Frankenstein movie filmed in color.
Hammer hit an original chord by focusing their series on the expoits of Baron Frankenstein and this is the best and most original entry in the series. Everything works in this movie: an intelligent script, a horrific monster, and Peter Cushing delivers his most charismatic performance as the Baron.
