This San Francisco appearance by Chuck Berry finds him backed by The Miller Band, also known as The Miller Blues Band and later to become famous as The Steve Miller Band. By the time of this 1966 recording Berry had a well established practice of working solely with local pickup bands and then moving onto the next tour stop alone, with guitar in hand and cash in pocket. The strength of this pairing is that he was working with an outfit in sync with his blues skills, which this set showcases. The CD even adds two more bluesy numbers ("Feelin It" and "It Hurts Me Too") not included on the original vinyl issue. It's not until the final ten minutes that the show turns and runs through a couple of Chuck's signature rock & roll classics, "Reelin' And Rockin" and "Johnny B. Goode," as well as the comically lewd "My Ding-A-Ling," which would ironically become his only Number One single five years later.
