The Four Tops were having a career resurgence when this excellent live album was recorded in 1974, which may explain the group's overall ebullience throughout. In any case, the repertoire is nicely split between their Motown '60s classics and their '70s hits, and the recorded sound is great; despite the presence of a very big backing band, complete with strings and horns, the whole thing has the intimate feel of a club date. Meanwhile, lead singer Levi Stubbs' extended monologue about the uses of a two-by-four in the case of spousal infidelity (in the downhome, bluesy "I Am Your Man") is in itself worth the price of admission.
