Biography
Some observers figured that after the dissolution of the Smashing Pumpkins in late 2000, long-time leader Billy Corgan (17 March 1967, Chicago, Illinois, USA) would launch a solo career. Instead, he opted to form a brand new outfit, Zwan, comprised of alt rock notables. After playing guitar on tour for New Order during the summer of 2001, Corgan assembled Zwan, originally comprised of his ex-Smashing Pumpkins bandmate Jimmy Chamberlin (b. 10 June 1964, Joliet, Illinois, USA; drums), Matt Sweeney (vocals/guitar; ex-Chavez), plus Papa M mainstay David Pajo aka Skullfisher (b. Texas, USA; vocals/bass). It was this line-up that played a smattering of shows during late 2001 to an enthusiastic response. The following year the band honed their songs and played quite a few shows around Chicago and eventually signed a recording contract with Reprise Records.
