This east coast urban R&B duo comprises Renee Neufville (Brooklyn, New York, USA) and Jean Norris (b. Moorestown, New Jersey, USA), who started singing together while studying at Philadelphia Temple University, and were discovered at a talent show by DJ Jazzy Jeff And The Fresh Prince. They went on to contribute backing vocals to the latter’s 1991 single, ‘Ring My Bell’, before linking with another prominent rapper, Queen Latifah, as part of her Flavor Unit collective. Their debut, ‘Hey Mr DJ’, was first featured on the compilation album, Roll Wit Tha Flava, before subsequent release as a single saw it reach the Top 5 in the USA. Like Latifah, they signed with Motown Records, enjoying further success with the follow-up single ‘Groove Thang’.
