Described by some commentators as the UKs answer to the French lounge-synth band, Air, Zero 7 comprises Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker. Friends from their childhood in north London, they both studied sound engineering, despite differing musical preferences that encompassed soul, jazz, classical and hip-hop. After college, they both worked at Mickie Mosts RAK Records studios. There, they worked on material by artists including Robert Plant and the Pet Shop Boys but nothing for which they had any passion. A college friend, Nigel Godrich produced Radioheads 1997 classic OK Computer and offered the duo the opportunity to remix the track Climbing Up The Walls. The highly influential DJ and entrepreneur, Gilles Peterson was impressed with the remix and played it on his BBC Radio 1 show, eventually engaging the band to remix Love Theme From Spartacus by the soul singer-songwriter, Terry Callier.
