Biography

This Swiss electronic band is led by Dieter Meier (4 March 1945, Zurich, Switzerland), the son of a millionaire banker, sometime professional gambler, performance artist, and member of the Switzerland national golf team. Meier provides the concepts whilst his partner Boris Blank (b. 2 October 1938, Switzerland) writes the music. Previously Meier had been a member of Periphery Perfume band Fresh Color and had released two solo singles. Teaming up with Blank and tape manipulator Carlos Peron to form Yello, the trio released the ‘I.T. Splash’ single on Periphery Perfume before signing a recording contract with Ralph Records in San Francisco, a label supported by the enigmatic Residents. Yello debuted with ‘Bimbo’ and the album Solid Pleasure in 1980.
