Biography
An initially rather laboured attempt at emulating the swingbeat success of SWV and their ilk, this four-piece was assembled in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, by writer/producer Jermaine Dupri, who was previously the force behind Kriss Kross chart success. However, there was an important difference. While acts such as TLC (another band overseen by Dupri) had been closely identified with provocative sexuality, Xscape had roots in the gospel tradition and eschewed such salacious themes. Xscape was formed in 1990 by sisters LaTocha Juicy Scott (2 October 1973), Tamika Meatball Scott (b. 19 November 1975), alongside Kandi Burruss (b. 17 May 1976) and Tameka Tiny Cottle (b. 14 July 1975).
