29 May 1978, Torquay, Victoria, Australia. Raised in the world-renowned surf resort of Torquay on the south coast of Australia, Rudd is an immensely talented multi-instrumentalist whose native surroundings are clearly a major inspiration to his work. In the same mould as Jack Johnson, Ben Harper and fellow compatriots the Beautiful Girls, Rudd creates laid-back music that reflects a carefree life of surf and sun. His growing worldwide reputation, especially in his home country and Canada, came about largely as a result of his relentless touring, and live shows that frequently earned glowing reviews. Rudd frequently takes to the stage as a one-man band and plays a wide range of instruments that include a Weissenborn slide guitar, various didgeridoos, harmonica and varying forms of percussion, in addition to electric, acoustic and bass guitars.
