Biography
Wynnford Lindsey Stewart, 7 June 1934, on a farm near Morrisville, Missouri, USA, d. 17 July 1985, Hendersonville, Tennessee, USA. Stewarts uncle was a major league pitcher, which inspired hopes of a baseball career, until he was told that he would never be big enough. He became interested in songwriting, learned to play the guitar, and at the age of 13, he appeared regularly on KWTO Springfield. A year later the family moved to California, where Stewart became friendly and for a time ran a band with Ralph Mooney, the now legendary steel guitarist. Stewart first recorded for Intro in 1954 and local success with his own song, Strolling, led to him signing for Capitol Records. In 1956, his recording of Waltz Of The Angels became his first hit, further minor ones followed but it was not until 1959, after he moved to the Challenge label, that he achieved major success with Wishful Thinking and also recorded with Jan Howard.
