Biography
One of modern souls most successful duos, comprising husband and wife team Cecil Womack (Cleveland, Ohio, USA) and Linda Cooke Womack. Cecil had been the youngest of the Womack Brothers, who later evolved into the Valentinos. With them, he signed to Sam Cookes Star imprint, but Cookes subsequent death left them homeless, and after a brief liaison with Chess Records, Bobby Womack left the group to go solo. Cecil later married singer Mary Wells, whom he managed until the couple separated. Linda, the daughter of Sam Cooke, had begun a songwriting career in 1964 at the age of 11, composing I Need A Woman. She would also provide Im In Love for Wilson Pickett and A Womans Gotta Have It for James Taylor, but later forged a professional, and personal, partnership with Cecil.
