Biography
This US post-rock band was formed in 1994 by guitarists Dan Matz and Jason McNeely. After migrating to Austin, Texas, and hooking up with drummer Greg Anderson, the band signed a recording contract with Trance Syndicate Records and entered the studio with engineer Adam Wiltzie (of US space rockers Stars Of The Lid) to record their 1996 debut, Calm Hades Float. Balancing improvised ambient passages with muted layers of guitar feedback, the albums elongated soundscapes drew comparisons to the work of contemporaries Labradford and Flying Saucer Attack. Wiltzie joined the band as a full-time member on their second album, Minnie Greutzfeldt, following which they relocated to Michael Giras Young God label. Difference And Repetition honed their intricate music to an even finer level, creating some of the US post-rock scenes most beautiful music with tracks such as Shoes McCoat and Lost In Cycles.
