Biography
California, USA. Versatile guitarist Bernard shot to attention as a sideman in the mid-90s, playing in Charlie Hunters weird and wonderful tribute band, TJ Kirk. The Berkeley, California native also appeared regularly with the Peter Apfelbaum Sextet and Jai Uttals Pagan Love Orchestra, skipping adeptly between a variety of musical styles ranging from ambient dub to funk jazz. A Berklee College Of Music graduate with a degree in composition, Bernards projects illustrate the range of his talents. In the late 90s, he co-led the dub/jazz collective Pothole and also worked with his own Will Bernard 4tet. The latters 1998 debut recording for the Antilles label, featuring Bernard regulars Rob Burger (organ/accordion), John Shifflett (bass) and Scott Amendola (drums), demonstrated the guitarists mastery of slide playing and the blues and funk idioms, and his ability to stretch the boundaries of groove-orientated music....
