Biography
Raleigh, North Carolina-based alternative country band led by Ryan Adams (David Ryan Adams, 5 November 1974, Jacksonville, North Carolina, USA; vocals/guitar/banjo). Adams was raised in Jacksonville and formed high school punk band the Patty Duke Syndrome in his teens. He reverted to more traditional musical forms with Whiskeytown, formed in 1994 with Phil Wandscher (guitar/vocals), Caitlin Cary (violin/vocals), Eric Skillet Gilmore (drums/vocals) and Steve Grothman (bass). The band issued the Angels E.P. on North Carolina independent Mood Food Records the same year. They contributed a cover version of Richard Hells Blank Generation to a tribute compilation in 1995, before embarking on sessions for their debut album. Recorded in The Funny Farm studio in the tiny hamlet of Apex, Faithless Street appeared in January 1996.
