Biography
At one stage they were cited by many as the band most likely to topple Morbid Angel, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse and Nile from the top of the death metal tree, Polands Vader produce savagely aggressive music, but retain enough melody and subtlety so that the sounds they make do not degrade merely into white noise. Formed by Peter (Piotr Pawel Wiwczarek, 22 October 1965, Olsztyn, Poland; vocals/guitar), Doc (b. Krzysztof Raczkowski, 29 October 1970, Ketrzyn, Poland, d. August 2005; drums), China (guitar) and Jackie (bass) in the industrial town of Olsztyn in Poland in the pre-glasnost era of 1986, Vader became the first Eastern Bloc metal band to be signed to a Western record company, in this case the Earache label from Nottingham, England, whose A&R had been impressed by the bands Morbid Reich demo.
