Gary Tyrone England, 5 December 1963, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA. The new country singer Ty England was first turned on to country music by his grandfather, who gave him his first guitar and taught him the basic chords. He sang with high school bands and played acoustic sets at coffee shops while at university. He befriended Garth Brooks in 1982 and they made a pact that if one of them found success, he would help the other along. Therefore, in 1988, Brooks, who had just signed with Capitol Records, asked England to be in his band. For five years England worked as a guitarist and harmony singer with Brooks. He almost signed a solo contract with Liberty Records but then decided to go with RCA Records. His first single, ‘Should’ve Asked Her Faster’, was a western swing number that made the US country Top 30.
