Biography
Since the 80s, most of the so-called country artists that have crossed over onto the mainstream charts seem to have more in common with pop music than traditional honky-tonk, but there are still a few authentic country acts out there, such as the quartet Two Dollar Pistols. Originating from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA, the band was formed in 1996 by singer-songwriter and guitarist John Howie Jnr., who was joined by an assortment of musicians including Greg Hawks (guitar/vocals), John Prince (guitar), Chris Phillips (drums), Jack Campbell (bass/vocals), Jon Kemppainen (fiddle), and Steve Watson (steel guitar). A year later, Two Dollar Pistols issued their debut, On Down The Track, which reached the Top 20 of the US Gavin Americana chart shortly after release.
