23 May 1982, Del Mar, California, USA. This Californian singer-songwriter was a keen surfer in her youth but spent an increasing amount time listening to music while at high school. She began playing acoustic guitar and writing songs in her spare time, and before long was performing solo slots in clubs and bars. Her continuing interest in surfing led to a contract to model the Roxy apparel for Quiksilver Inc. and an acting role in the 2001 surf movie Shelter. Prettyman released her independent debut, The Love EP, at the end of 2003. Featuring seven tracks of gentle acoustic folk pop, the EP attracted the attention of Virgin Records who evidently saw the potential for turning Prettyman into a female version of the highly successful Jack Johnson.
