Biography
This leading vocal trio from Bulgaria comprises Yanka Rupkina, discovered in 1959 at an amateur folk festival, (Strandja, Bulgaria), Stoyanka Boneva (b. Pirrin, Bulgaria), and Eva Georgieva (b. Dobroudja, Bulgaria). All three are soloists in their own right, and have all performed and recorded with the Sofia Radio Choir, featured on the Le Mystère Des Voix Bulgares albums. Their repertoire includes material from their respective regions of Bulgaria. The Forest Is Crying, co-produced by Joe Boyd, features such backing musicians as Roumen Sirakov (tambour), Ognyan Jimmy Vassiliev (drums), Mihail Marinov (gadulka), Stoyan Velichkov (kaval), Hristofer Radanov (clarinet), and Pascal Pascalev (bass). The group impressed audiences in 1987 during their Balkana British Tour.
