12 July 1976, Waterloo, Iowa, USA. This precociously talented R&B artist, whose father had performed as a member of vocal group the Cavaliers, began singing at an early age. She was discovered after appearing on the nationally syndicated Star Search television show in 1986, and, following an audition in Los Angeles, California, signed to Capitol Records. She released her self-titled debut album in 1988, and reached the US Top 40 singles chart with Symptoms Of True Love. Still barely into her teenage years, Spencer achieved further success with her second collection, Make The Difference, which included the US number 3 pop hit This House, the sensuous R&B chart-topper Tender Kisses, and the R&B Top 5 single, Love Me.
