Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The daughter of celebrated black liberation and civil rights scholar and vocalist Bernice Johnson Reagon, Toshi is an accomplished singer-songwriter who often covers similar subject matter. Her mother helped co-produce her 1985 debut album, Demonstration, which distilled black folk and soul traditions through appealing arrangements of electric, acoustic and rhythm guitar, plus drums, bass and vocals (all from Toshi). She also proved herself adept at working within various tempos and styles. Justice, released by Chicagos Flying Fish Records, concentrated on original compositions, with the exception of Walking In Your Footsteps (Sting) and a piece by Georgia Sea Island. Bernice Reagon was present again, joined by vocalist Judith Casselberry and percussionist Annette Aguliar.
