Biography
1963, Buenos Aires, Argentina. A powerful and talented advocate of Brazilian instrumental jazz, guitarist Mariano moved to that country from his native Argentina at the age of 14. By this time already a fluent, self-taught performer, under the tutelage of guitarist Claudio Gabis he studied music theory and harmony. By 1980 he was a regular at various night clubs, performing alongside bossa nova legends. However, his other influences were drawn from a wide musical vocabulary, and he delighted in mixing his South American heritage with the rock, blues, jazz and funk traditions of the USA. Naming Santana, Pat Metheny, Jeff Beck, Ivan Luis and Djavan among his primary influences, he was pleased to oblige when the opportunity arose to accompany the last-named pair in the studio.
