Biography
Edward Anthony Ashton, 1 March 1946, Blackburn, Lancashire, England, d. 28 May 2001, London, England. Ashton embraced professional music after replacing Don Andrews in Liverpool outfit the Remo Four. The newcomers powerful keyboard technique helped to shift the units musical direction from Merseybeat to that of R&B, as evinced by their posthumous collection, Smile. Having completed the power pop Live Like A Lady (1967), the quartet contributed to George Harrisons Wonderwall soundtrack, before Ashton and drummer Dyke departed to form the jazz rock band Ashton, Gardner And Dyke with ex-Creation bass player Kim Gardner. The trio enjoyed a UK Top 5 hit with Resurrection Shuffle in 1971, but disbanded two years later. Ashton joined Family where he remained until their disintegration in 1974.
