Biography
This US outfit was formed by bass player Tina Weymouth (Martina Michéle Weymouth, 22 November 1950, Coronado, California, USA) and her husband, drummer Chris Frantz (b. Charlton Christopher Frantz, 8 May 1951, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, USA), as a spin-off from their main band, Talking Heads. The pair were on holiday in Nassau in the Bahamas (later buying a house there) when they met Steven Stanley, the engineer at Compass Point studios and a keyboard player. They also met Monte Browne, the guitarist with T-Connection who were recording there. The four set about rehearsing and recording together and came up with Wordy Rappinghood which was a UK Top 10 hit in 1981 under the group name the Tom Tom Club, taken from the name of a hall where they practised.
