3 November 1976, Grand Forks, North Dakota, USA. Singer-songwriter Brosseau established a cult following in the early 00s with a series of low-key album releases. After graduating from the University of North Dakota, he began performing in clubs around his native Grand Forks. He relocated to San Diego to further his music career, working alongside Gregory Page in the American Folk Singers. He recorded his debut album (named after his home state) in 2002. Another independent release followed in 2004, which was recorded live without an audience at the Largo club in North Fairfax, Los Angeles.
Brosseau then signed a recording contract with the Loveless label, gaining wider distribution for What I Mean To Say Is Goodbye. This collection maintained the pared-down folk style of his earlier releases, with minimal guitar accompaniment and beguiling melodies.
