Hartzell Strathdene Parham, 25 February 1900, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, d. 4 April 1943, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. Raised in Kansas City, pianist and organ player Parham played in a number of lesser-known territory bands in the early 20s. During the later years of the decade he recorded with blues singers and such jazzmen as Johnny Dodds. In the late 20s and early 30s he led his own small and big bands in and around Kansas City, but by 1936 abandoned band leading in favour of a career as a solo organist, mostly in Chicago.
