Biography
16 March 1954, Wheeling, West Virginia, USA. While he was growing up, the country singer Tim O’Brien became proficient on guitar, mandolin, fiddle and a guitar-shaped bouzouki and used to sing with his sister Mollie. In 1978 he and the banjo player Pete Wernick formed a bluegrass band, Hot Rize, with O’Brien on lead vocals, mandolin and fiddle. They also performed as their own opening act, as Red Knuckles And The Trailblazers, a western swing band. Hot Rize had run its course by 1984 and O’Brien, after making a solo album, teamed up with his sister again. Kathy Mattea had a US country hit with O’Brien’s song ‘Walk The Way The Wind Blows’ and O’Brien also sang on her version of ‘The Battle Hymn Of Love’.
