Formed by Jorge Gomez (1971, Havana, Cuba; piano), Joaquin Diaz (b. 1976, Santiago, Cuba; vocals), Tebelio Fonte (b. 1964, San Juan y Martinez Pinar del Rio, Cuba; bass), Eduardo Quintana (b. 1966, Puerto Cabello, Venezuela; flute/saxophone), Julio Díaz (b. 1971, Cienfuegos, Cuba; trumpet), Leandro Gonzalez (b. 1968, Havana, Cuba; congas) and Fernando Pina (b. 1966, Santa Clara, Cuba; drums), this Miami, Florida, USA-based timba band made inroads into the North American market during the early 00s with their energetic and thoroughly contemporary take on traditional Cuban music. Gomez was the mastermind behind the band, assembling a crack group of musicians (all, like Gomez, classically trained and recent immigrants) to help realise his vision.
