Biography
This Canadian alt metal band was formed in Norwood, Ontario, in 1997 by Adam Gontier (vocals/guitar), Neil Sanderson (drums) and Brad Walst (bass). The members had originally played together in the under-achieving Groundswell before changing their name, relocating to Toronto, and developing a more mainstream sound. A partnership with producer Gavin Brown gave the bands career the impetus it required, and a major label recording contract with US label Jive Records followed at the start of the new millennium. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2003 and garnered a positive critical reaction, with the band crossing over to the US market through the hit singles I Hate Everything About You, Just Like You and Home.
