Biography
Formed in Sacramento, California, USA, in 1984, Thin White Rope initially comprised Guy Kyser (vocals, guitar), Roger Kunkel (guitar), Kevin Stayhodor (bass, vocals) and Frank French (drums, ex-True West). However, by 1985 Stayhodor had been replaced by Steve Tesluk while the groups notoriously unsettled drumming position had been filled by Joe Becker. Taking their name from William Burroughs slang description of male ejaculation, Exploring The Axis was an exceptionally powerful debut, marked by Kysers distinctive voice and ragged guitar style. The balance between power and heavy-handedness was perfectly struck, although subsequent releases, in particular Moonhead and In The Spanish Cave, have veered towards the latter.
